History:
In 1977, a Seattle Juvenile Court Judge, concerned about making drastic decisions with insufficient information, conceived the idea of citizen volunteers speaking up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Courtroom. From that first program has grown a network of more than 946 CASA and Guardian Ad Litem programs that are recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers across the United States.
The Marion County Family Resource Network completed a needs assessment of our community in 1996. Child abuse and neglect was found to be a significant problem in Marion County. A committee came together to implement the CASA program. CASA of Marion County was incorporated in 1997. Over 100 CASA volunteers have been appointed by the Circuit Courts of Marion County to advocate and serve the best interest of abused and neglected children.
